World Art has initiated Bengal Art Show to encourage the essence of art and culture of Bengal. Bengal Art Show will be held in 2012 in two cities of India i.e. Delhi and Bengaluru with a promise to viewers an exquisite journey into the worlds of visual arts, architecture, literature, music, photography, dance, opera, fashion and design. One of the important objectives of The Bengal Art Show is in the sphere of increasing awareness and knowledge of rural life and crafts, specifically, for the younger generation. Special emphasis is laid on workshops for children on arts, crafts, theatre and music The show has been designed to display Bengal's culture and lifestyle as well as promote tourism in Bengal and thereby to further enhance the enriched culture. The events at Bengal Art Show will comprise of: * Chhau Dance: The Chhau dance of West Bengal is originated from Purulia district. It is included in the sophisticated dance performances of Bengal. The Chhau dance is a mask dance in which only male dancers can participate. In the performance of the Chhau, some of the characteristics of primitive ritualistic dance performance are noted. This can be also seen through its vigour, style and musical accompaniment mainly with the drum. * Folk Music -- Baul Bengali Baul songs truly interpret and also celebrate earthly love in a much liberal manner. This particular form of devotional and topical music truly transcends human relationship with nature and emphasizes on human love. The sweet music of Bengali Baul songs are truly a significant part of the Bengali culture which will always be in the hearts of the Bengali music lovers. * Documentary: Way Back Home, Director: Supriyo Sen The documentary is about the journey of a couple to their homeland after 50 years, which they were forced to leave during the volatile time of India's Partition in 1947. * Jatra : Jatra is a considered as a famous form of folk theatre from the eastern region of India. Jatra is the traditional theatre form of West Bengal. It is the enactment of a play. And performed with a cast and also comprises of music, dance, acting, singing and dramatic conflict in its performance. In earlier years, the religious values were well communicated with the help of Jatra to the masses. In short, it is used as the powerful medium of communication & awareness creation. * Nobel Laureate Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore's literary and artistic work which is famous all over the world as a seat of learning, art and culture based on India traditional and Tagore's philosophy. * Rich heritage of art and craft including handicrafts made from brass, bell metal conchshell Shola (pith), bamboo, jute cane cotton and grass. * Terracotta figurines and horses of Bankura made of burnt clay or wood Dhokra figurines of Bankura -- Birbhum -- Purilia. * Printed clay plaques of Kalighat -- clay models of Krishnanagar -- Leather bags of Sriniketan. Woodcarvings and semiprecious stone jewellery, Masks of Purulia and Darjeeling. * Jute Art and Products For centuries, jute has been an integral part of Bengali culture, which is shared by both Bangladesh and West Bengal of India. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, much of the raw jute fibre of Bengal were exported to the United Kingdom, where it was then processed in mills concentrated in Dundee ("jute weaver" was a recognised trade occupation in the 1901 UK census), but this trade had largely ceased by about 1970 due to the entrance of synthetic fibres. Bengal Art Show will display the opportunity for the revival of this dying product. Jute Manufactures Development Council, Ministry of Textiles has been promoting jute as a eco-friendly and cost effective product, creating employment for lakhs of Indians. World art supports the cause and will reflect its perspective through Bengal Art Show. *Paintings: The rich cultural heritage of Bengal is reflected in its art and paintings. West Bengal has made immense contributions to the art and culture of India. Bengal has produced some of the finest and best painters of India. Jamini Roy, the world-famous painter hails from Bengal. He received the coveted Padma Bhushan award in 1955. Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Paritosh Sen and Ramananda Bandhopadhyay are the other famous Bengali painters. There will be more than 100 paintings will be on display at the show ; mostly focusing on the theme, "Youthful Mind, Aspiring Life ".
