An army brat who move around due to his father's military career, singer-songwriter Josh Rouse has seen more of the world than most folks who hail from Nebraska. After trekking around as a musician, Rouse, who jokingly refers to himself as "a permanent tourist," finally settled in Valencia, Spain five years ago, where he lives with his wife and son. After cultivating a captivating catalog of folk-inspired pop songs, Rouse has slowly infused elements of Spanish and Brazilian music into his heady style. On his latest release, El Turista, Rouse crafts a phenomenal collection of tunes. Singing in Spanish and English, the album runs the gamut of Latin music, including everything from tender ballads to hip-shaking samba-fests and African rumbas. "It's a cross-pollination of a lot of different styles of music," Rouse says. In this EXCLUSIVE interview, Rouse talks about how living in Spain with his family has affected his music and how a Cuban lullaby he wrote called "Duerme" set the stylistic tone for El Turista.
