This is Block #7 of a 12- block video quilt along series. Every few weeks I will post a video tutorial on a new quilt block. At the end of the quilt along you will have completed 12 blocks (each measuring 12" x 12") and then I will post videos showing you how to sew them together and also how to finish the whole quilt. This block only requires 2 different fabrics and is the perfect block for a beginner to start practicing matching up intersecting points when piecing quilt blocks together. Feb 6, 2012 - It is! So many options! :o)

Feb 6, 2012 - hahaha... tell me about it! This stuff will consume your life! lol

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - No problem! :o)

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - I buy fabric at all of the following places: Thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, Joann's Fabrics, local quilt shops, online quilt shops, etc. It just depends on the project and what I'm looking for. :o) Stay tuned for next week's video. It's a surprise. :o)

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - To tell you the truth... I rarely ever wash my fabrics before starting the project. I just wait until the quilt is complete and then give it a good wash. The key to getting straight fabric is 1) precise cutting and 2) starching. I use spray starch to press my fabric flat for cutting. Then when I cut my squares they are nice and crisp- making it easy to sew with. Hope that helps!

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - haha.. thanks! That's one of my future goals. Just waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. ;o)

semcindoo Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - Very cool! I love that there are so many different ways you can lay out the pieces!

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - Yes, girl! If it hasn't been done already there should probably be a book written about how many different ways you can set those HSTs on for one block. It's insane! I love them. Definitely a go to block for any quilt. :o)

fgggdd333 Says:

Feb 6, 2012 - Great! I can't wait!!!!

Feb 7, 2012 - Liked how you showed some of the different ways you could arrange to the squares to make different blocks and patterns; I want to try making a zig-zag quilt! The clapping sounds when you showed the winners was cute :-). Your video editing skills are outstanding! I always look forward to your tuts as they are instructive and professional as well as entertaining without going overboard. And the bright flash at the end re. the flashcards was clever too!

Feb 9, 2012 - That was amazing. Thank you for the sewing tip about chaining the patches through the sewing machine. It'll save thread in the long run.

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - No problem! Yup... thread AND time saver. :o)

TheCraftyGemini Says:

Feb 9, 2012 - I thought the same thing when I arranged it in that zig-zag pattern! Gotta make one. Thanks for your post. I really appreciate it. :o)

Feb 27, 2012 - Oh, this can have some interesting color combinations " thinks through her brain about her fabrics and drools... Ah sorry there, pardon me... Got carried away for a moment. Ha.., ha...ha..." Giggle giggle.. Vanessa you inspire me. I am gonna make that machine of mine work, if it hairlips the governor! As my dearly departed daddy would say. And trust me he said it often. Not sure what he meant but must be ok.Lol
