Mr. Mansur Tamir Abraham was born on April 27, 1912 in Aden, Yemen, then under British rule. He was a highly regarded legal authority specializing in both African and Asian rule of law. His expertise was highly valued and was awarded the George Medal by the British authorities for his distinguished service. Mr. Abraham also dedicated himself to an appreciation and an understanding of the fine arts. His connoisseurship and meticulous study led to the formation of a finely honed collection that focused on Russian and Western European works of art which at the time of their purchase were considered of "minor importance." Among the M.T. Abraham collection are works by artists of international repute. After his death on January 9, 1999 Mr. Abraham's legacy and passion passed to his children and grandchildren. In a tribute to Mr. Abraham's great love of the fine arts, and because of their continuing interest in scholarship, his descendants honored his name by establishing the M.T. Abraham Center for the Visual Arts.
